Why Renewable Fuel Matters

Renewable fuel gives Americans choices: the choice to use a lower-cost, domestic and clean fuel, and the choice to escape the control that the oil industry has over our wallets. Click on our infographic below to learn more about the benefits of renewable fuel.

Fueling America's Progress

The Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) ensures that those choices at the pump are available to Americans. With the RFS opening up the fuel market to new fuel sources, the renewable fuel industry has been able to deliver economic, national security and environmental benefits:

  • Lowers gas prices by $1.09 per gallon and saves the average American household $1200 on their gas bill.

  • Reduced foreign oil imports to the lowest level in 20 years.

  • Supports more than 850,000 jobs across the country

  • Drives innovation in new and advanced fuel from feedstocks like algae or switchgrass.

  • Reduces harmful greenhouse gas emissions compared with oil; in the case of “cellulosic” biomass, that difference is as much as 110% lower than oil.

  • Supports rural America, generating a $500 billion increase to communities’ farm assets around the country.

  • Produces high-quality animal feed in addition to ethanol – the industry produced 37 million metric tons of high-protein feed last year as a co-product with renewable fuel.

Making sure that we all have a choice when we stop to fill up the tank means supporting the RFS and renewable fuel. Fuels America is committed to protecting that choice.

Renewable fuel is making a critical difference for our economy, for our environment, and for all Americans. In uncertain times, renewable fuel is a strong and reliable catalyst for growth, creating jobs while promoting a cleaner environment. Keep the progress going – keep America’s Renewable Fuel Standard in place.
